Piping vibration (and resulting fatigue failure) is one of the most common causes of hydrocarbon releases. 

While several excitation mechanisms can cause vibration, all piping vibration problems have one contributing factor in common: pipe supports.

Our troubleshooting engineers are called to facilities all over the world to tackle the toughest vibration problems. 

One key characteristic they observe is that some pipe supports improve vibration problems, and some don’t. In fact, some pipe support designs are found to be the root cause of vibration problems.

So how can we know which pipe supports are effective in vibratory systems? This webinar addresses this question head-on.  

We will present a new methodology to quantify pipe support performance along with empirical test data on eight common pipe supports. We'll also show some videos of real pipes and supports in vibratory action.

Part 1 and 2 are available on-demand, but not required to understand part 3.

In part 1 of this course (no prerequisite), we introduced new piping stress modelling techniques for supports in vibratory service. 

Part 2 (no prerequisite) provides example applications of various types of hold-down clamps along with the rationale behind selecting the right clamp for the right job. 

Part 3 will discuss a methodology to evaluate pipe supports for their effectiveness in vibrating systems, and show empirical data to help in the quantification of support performance.

This training course is relevant to piping designers, pipe stress engineers and operators and EPC staff responsible for dealing with vibration in piping systems.

Jordan


Jordan Grose, PEng, BSc, MBA

Jordan is a mechanical engineer with 16 years of design, field and monitoring experience with compressors, pumps and piping systems.  

Jordan currently leads Wood’s anti-vibration product group which researches and develops solutions to mitigate vibration in rotating equipment applications.

He has authored and presented numerous papers at international industry conferences. 

Starr


Starr Dalton, BSc

Starr has eight years’ experience in the oil and gas industry, including five years as a project engineer on capital projects. 

In her current role with Wood’s vibration group, she works closely with operators and EPCs to help them integrate anti-vibration solutions into their projects.

Starr has presented training courses and technical presentations at industry conferences throughout North America.

Timothy Bootsveld, PEng, BSc

Timothy is a mechanical engineer specialising in vibration and pipe stress design. 

In his current role, he supports the development of Wood’s anti-vibration products and provides specialist advice on their application, based on his background in pulsation and finite element modelling of piping systems. 

Timothy has been with Wood’s vibration, dynamics and noise team for over seven years, focusing on pipe stress and vibration analysis projects, balancing both requirements for B31.3, API 618/674 studies. He also delivers detailed training seminars on acoustical pulsation and mechanical vibration simulations.
